About Me

Hello there. My name is Donnacha O’Maille, and welcome to AskMeArts.ie. This is where I hope to explore the interaction between the arts, culture, business and the internet in Ireland.

I have had an interest in the arts in Ireland all my life, and have written about the subject extensively for many years. Through this blog I would hope to put a selection of some of the material I have written in the past back into the public domain.  It is also my intention through this blog to bring my interests in arts, culture, business, music, film and technology together under one banner.

Looking back on the older articles, we can now view some the material with a certain amount of nostalgia and glee, while many of the other items appear here as a matter of record and will serve (hopefully) to document an art market, a country and indeed a people, undergoing enormous change.  Many of the earlier articles were written during the genesis of the so-called ‘Celtic Tiger’ period, as Ireland’s then newly wealthy elite were driving many ordinary collectors out of the market with their deep pockets and the prices they were prepared to pay.

Some of the older items like the ‘Collectors Corner’ are generally  still fresh enough today to present to an audience and a readership with an interest in learning about the basics of collecting and investing in fine arts and antiques. Hopefully they can still be of use, or at the very least provide some entertainment.

As always, opinions expressed here are entirely my own, and  should not reflect on any of the publications I write for or for which I have written for in the past.

Thanks for dropping by.
